Prevent cavities and gum disease early

Children who learn how to take care of their teeth and oral health at an early age are less likely to develop cavities and gum disease. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends children go to the dentist by the age of one year old or within six months after the first tooth erupts. We encourage all patients to maintain a schedule of routine dental cleanings for their child so children get comfortable with dental visits. Dr. Soonmyo Wheeler and the staff at Summit Dental take extra steps to help children feel comfortable and relaxed during treatment.

“Treating kids early can prevent long term problems in the future. The early treatment can also protect against TMJ disorder as well.”

Pediatric dentistry services

Dr. Wheeler offers several specialty services for younger patients. Our goal is to help your child’s teeth remain healthy and also educate your child about ways to maintain proper dental hygiene. We understand that many children have anxiety or fear about going to the dentist. We do offer sedation dentistry services for younger patients so just let us know if anxiety is an issue with your child.
Our pediatric dentistry services include:

Orthodontics treatments for children

Many children are ideal candidates for teeth straightening treatments at an early age. Dr. Wheeler specializes in Phase I Orthodontics which facilitate healthy development and eruption of adult teeth. This is a type of intervention treatment that helps adult teeth grow in their ideal position so that metal braces or other teeth straightening treatments are not necessary during the teen years or into adulthood. Dr. Wheeler offers traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and lingual braces for children.

You can always trust that your child’s oral health is in good hands when working with Dr. Wheeler!
